What is Electable?

We’re here to help voters make sense of elections; giving them the means to easily find information about their local candidates. In doing so, Electable becomes a tool for news outlets and candidates to better achieve their goals.

How it works …

News outlets looking to enhance their election coverage invite candidates to the site to fill out biographies and answer questionnaires. Outlets then assign the candidates to races and assign a jurisdiction to the race using an Open Civic Data ID.

Candidates, of course, may sign up on their own and create a profile; but we rely on the expertise of our journalist partners to vett the candidates running for specific positions.

News outlets may then feature their coverage to their readers. They may enhance this by creating a white label page or embedding widgets in their articles.

With races and candidates inputted, voters visiting Electable may search their address and return upcoming local races. Electable uses the address to find its local jurisdictions, returning races and referenda in those jurisdictions. We’ll also feature which outlets are managing these races.

What it does …

For newsrooms, Electable makes it easier to collect, manage and present candidate information.

For candidates, it serves as a way to better communicate with the media along with a web presence for voters.

For the public, it’s the simplest way yet to learn about local candidates.
